A MAN and a woman were left hospitalised after a house fire in Irvine.
Fire crews raced to tackle the blaze at an address in the town’s Doon Court on Thursday, August 21.
It was revealed that the fire broke out in the kitchen due to a grill plan being left on.
However, when crews arrived on the scene the fire had already been extinguished.
Both the man and woman were taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock suffering from smoke inhalation.
They were given oxygen on the scene by firefighters before being handed into the care of Scottish Ambulance personnel.
Station Manager Derek Davidson said: “Fire & Rescue personnel were mobilised to a small fire in a kitchen in Doon Court, Irvine.
“As a result of the incident an adult male and female were both found to be suffering from smoke inhalation.
“Firefighters administered oxygen to the casualties until Scottish Ambulance personnel arrived and they were handed over into their care.” “Our crews were not required to undertake any direct firefighting action as the fire was extinguished on our arrival.
“We did however implement our post domestic incident response process which allows householders to take up our free home fire safety visit initiative and have smoke detection fitted and an escape plan formulated specifically for their circumstances should a fire occur in their house.”
