FIRE crews battled through the night to save a derelict Irvine primary school after a massive blaze.
It's been confirmed that around "70 per cent" of Fencedyke Primary School has been damaged after the fire broke out around 9pm on Tuesday, September 9.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service revealed that 15 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the blaze, which lasted through the night.
The fire has now been brought under control but crews this morning are using thermal imaging to find any hidden hot spots.
It is not yet known how the fire started.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The call came in at 9.23pm from a member of the public, but there were repeated calls.
“Three fire engines attended with around 15 firefighters. It was a well-developed fire and there were still pumps out this morning.
“Around 70 per cent of the building was affected.” For more on this story see Irvine Times Facebook and Twitter feeds.
