A TEENAGER who attacked two bouncers at an Irvine nightclub has avoided jail.

Blair Maitland, 18, admitted punching two doormen in the face at Pitchers nightclub on August 31.

The incident occurred at around 1am when the bouncers had cause to deal with a disturbance in the club.

The disturbance involved two men, one of which was Maitland.

The bouncers attempted to split up the fighting pair with Maitland being the more aggressive of the two.

The two doormen attempted to grab hold of Maitland but the teen lashed out at one of the bouncers, punching him in the face.

Maitland continued to throw punches and struggled with the bouncers before being ejected onto the street.

The bouncers returned to their duties but an enraged Maitland continued to shout in the street, demanding that he retrieve his jacket from inside the club.

One of the bouncers took Maitland’s ticket to fetch his jacket but Maitland had other ideas.

The teenager charged the remaining bouncer at the door who in turn grabbed Maitland in an attempt to stop him re-entering.

Maitland then started to throw punches at the bouncer and when his colleague returned to his aid, all three men fell to the ground.

But Maitland continued his rampage, punching one of the bouncers in the face while on the ground.

The other doorman was finally able to restrain Maitland on the ground while police were contacted.

When police arrived outside the club, Maitland was still being restrained and acting in an aggressive manner.

He was arrested and taken to Saltcoats Police Office.

It was revealed that neither of the bouncers were injured during the incident.

Maitland, of Barra Wynd, Irvine, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week and pled guilty to the offence.

The apprentice mechanic appeared without legal representation and admitted attacking the bouncers when questioned by presiding Sheriff Alastair Watson.

But Maitland insisted that he was the one splitting up a fight instead of being involved in one.

He said: “Everything is true about fighting with the bouncers but I was the one trying to split up a fight.

“I had too much alcohol and I haven’t stepped foot in the club or near the town since. I do regret it.” Sheriff Watson gave Maitland a stern warning about his behaviour.

He said: “If you were older I might have treated this differently.

“I can see that you are very young and that you’ve never been in trouble before.

“But this is very serious, this better be a one off and I hope you’ll never do anything like this again.

“You have a criminal record now and that will hang round your neck for many years to come.” Maitland was fined a total of £600.
