AN IRVINE man who stole a quantity of meat and cheese has been jailed.

William Lundie, 36, committed the theft on July 17 from the Co-Operative in Irvine’s Caldon Road.

The incident occurred at around 7.30pm when a member of staff observed Lundie place the groceries in a black bag he was carrying.

Lundie then proceeded to make his way out of the shop but was confronted by another member of staff.

He said: “Don’t report me” and made off with £64 worth of meat and cheese.

However despite his pleas, police were contacted but they were unable to trace Lundie or recover the groceries.

Lundie, who at the time of the offence resided in Victoria House, Boyle Street, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court from custody last week and pled guilty to the offence.

Presiding Sheriff Shirley Foran sentenced Lundie to four months in prison, added to his current sentence.
