A KILWINNING man who punched a taxi driver in Irvine is awaiting sentencing.

Sean Crawley, of Stobbs Terrace, attacked the driver on September 19 in Bank Street.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard last week how at 1.10am police were informed about an ongoing disturbance in the area and attended immediately.

When arriving at the scene, a man approached officers and said he was assaulted by Crawley.

The officers were able to see that Crawley, who works for North Ayrshire Council, was being restrained on the ground by witnesses. CCTV was reviewed and showed that the 23-year-old followed the driver who got into the taxi.

But when the man left the vehicle to confront Crawley, he was punched in the face.

Police noticed that the victim had a small cut to his forehead and slight swelling.

Crawley was arrested and released.

He pled guilty to the offence when appearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

His sentencing was deferred until November to gather social work reports.
