YOUNGSTERS from Kilwinning were out in force at the weekend and working hard to make their town spotless.
Promoting Kilwinning’s Big Autumn Clean-up has got off to a flying start in spite of poor weather conditions. Groups from Kilwinning’s 2nd Boys Brigade and the 19th Ayrshire Scouts have been working hard to keep Kilwinning litter free by cleaning up the streets. St Luke’s Primary Eco Group have also lent a hand, as they led a group of pupils and parents in helping clean up the area. Central Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe said: “Litter dropping and flytipping have long been a bone of contention in our communities.
“The authorities can only do so much to keep the place clean. We have to encourage people to look after their environment – and that’s where this exercise is a winner for everyone.
“Not only will Kilwinning look smarter as a result, the clean-up project motivates large groups of people, particular youngsters, to take an active, ongoing interest in their home town.
“The teenagers who were out on Saturday will always have a healthy respect for their surroundings. Through them, their friends and parents will also be forever mindful of how tidy the place can be with a little effort.” Joe Broussard, Promoting Kilwinnning Chairman said: “There is still time to do your bit for the Big Autumn Cleanup which ends on Saturday, November 1.” See this week's papers for pictures of the different groups,
