AN IRVINE supermarket has revealed plans to build a key cutting shop within its car park.

North Ayrshire Council’s Planning Committee are considering an application from Sainsbury’s in Ayr Road to construct a Timpson kiosk within the cycle park area of its car park.

The plans would see five of the current ten cycle stands relocated to elsewhere in the car park to make way for the Timpson “pod”.

Sainsbury’s have constructed numerous Timpson pods throughout the UK and are hoping that Irvine will be the latest store to host a kiosk.

The store insist that dry cleaning, shoe/watch repairs and engraving services will also be offered to customers at the kiosk.

The planning application states: “The proposed dry cleaning concession pod will provide an additional retail offer to the supermarkets existing customers. It is considered that the proposed works will not have an adverse impact on the local visual amenity or a detrimental effect on the character and appearance of the area.” North Ayrshire Council declined to comment on the application.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman added: “The new Timpson’s unit, sitting alongside our store in Irvine, will provide a valuable extra service for customers already coming to us for their shopping. If granted permission and developed it will provide the usual range of Timpson’s services including key cutting and repairs.”
