TWO councillors have been given new positions as part of the latest cabinet reshuffle.

North Ayrshire Council have announced that Councillors Tony Gurney and Ruth Maguire will take up new roles at Cunninghame House.

Councillor Gurney is now the cabinet member for Place, which includes Commercial Services, Physical Environment and Housing, having previously been responsible for Environment and Infrastructure.

Meanwhile Councillor Maguire will now be responsible for Finance and Corporate Support.

NAC Leader Willie Gibson said: “The changes will allow both Tony and Ruth to focus their time and resources on clearly-defined areas and both will flourish with new and exisiting responsibilities.

“The changes will enable us to provide the capacity to deal with a number of key issues within the Finance Portfolio including the challenges around public sector finances; our approach and how we can respond to poverty and deprivation within the area; the impacts of welfare reform.

“And it will allow Tony to focus on his portfolio which includes many of our front-line services such as catering, bin collections and property development.”
