POLICE are still hunting the culprits for the attempted murder of an Irvine woman.

A 49-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after her house in Seaton Terrace was deliberately set on fire in March.

In the nine months since the blaze, officers at Police Scotland have been unable to trace the culprits behind the fire.

Following the 2am blaze the victim was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics before being taken to Crosshouse Hospital and was later released.

However, police and fire chiefs quickly established that this was no accident and immediately appealed for witnesses and information to find those responsible.

Police were particularly keen to speak to a man who was described as wearing “dark clothing” who was seen in the area around the time of the fire.

But nine months later and enquiries are still ongoing with no arrests being made as the Times went to press.

When the investigation was first launched, Detective Sergeant Ian Ross said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries including door-to-door enquiries to trace the person responsible and discover the motive for the fire.

“I would like to appeal to a man who was described as wearing dark clothing who was seen in the area around the time of the fire to get in touch as he may have information which can help our enquiry. I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area on the night and saw anything suspicious or anyone hanging around to contact me by calling Police Scotland on 101.”
