A SPECIAL memorial has been arranged in honour of a Kilwinning man who lost his life in a tragic car crash this month.

Douglas Archer was killed two weeks ago when his Volkswagen Golf collided with another car on the A737 in Beith on Thursday, January 8.

The 30-year-old, from Whitehirst Park, died at the scene, despite efforts to save him.

His death has left his family, friends and colleagues shocked and devastated.

A keen car enthusiast, Douglas was a member of various car groups, including Cruise Ayrshire and now motoring group Auto-Tec performance is hosting a memorial event in his honour.

On their Facebook page they say: “Last night we lost a close friend of ours Douglas Archer. One of the team at ATP.

“For all that had the pleasure of meeting him it would be clear to see his love for cars and his shows.

“We are going to hold a event day at AutoTec Performance.

“We would like to invite all who knew this great guy to come along.

“All money raised on the day will go to any charity of the family’s choice.” Douglas was well known and well loved throughout the Ayrshire community, and as well as his love for cars, was also a keen footballer, playing for Dirrans Athletic last season.

The team held a minute’s silence for him at a recent Scottish Cup tie against St Joseph’s.

Since his death tributes have been pouring in for the fun-loving car enthusiast with hundreds of posts on his Facebook page.

The Douglas Archer Memorial Event event will take place on March 15 at Auto-Tec in Greenock.
