IRVINE residents are demanding clarity about plans to relocate the town’s main Post Office.

It was revealed last months that proposals had been drawn up for the Post Office, currently situated within the Spar on the High Street, to relocate a few yards up the street within the Inex Homecare home hardware store.

But at their most recent meeting last week, members of Irvine Community Council called on the Post Office to provide them with more information about the plans.

The group claimed that although a consultation was launched last month, they and other residents in the town have been left in the dark about the proposals.

Community councillor Bill Anderson raised concerns about provision for disabled access and the increased walking distance for elderly Post Office users.

Back in March, Labour politician Brian Donohoe called on the people of Irvine to back the plans saying it would bring “enormous benefit” to the town.

And this week, a Post Office spokeswoman has re-assured the community council that if the proposals were approved then they would sufficiently cater for the disabled.

They said: “The proposed site of the new Post Office would be on the ground floor of the premises.

“The proposed premises would have a wide door and level access.

“Internally, there would be a hearing loop, a low-level writing desk, a lowlevel serving counter and space for a wheelchair.”
