PROMOTING Kilwinning is supporting the Clean Up Scotland’s Spring Clean Up during April and May with litter picking events planned around the town.

The group is looking for support from the local community to unite to improve the look of the town and hopes to have a large positive response.

Promoting Kilwinning volunteers who have already ‘adopted a spot’ to keep litter free are being asked to make an extra thorough clean up of their spot during the clean up.

They also hope that more volunteers ‘adopt a spot’ with the goal of having the entire town sponsored and have every organisation, business, church and school sponsoring an area.

Joe Broussard from Promoting Kilwinning said: “There are two ways to participate in the Spring Clean Up.

“Firstly, decide which part of the town you want to improve and let Promoting Kilwinning know by phoning 01294 552284.

“You could clean up the litter around your home or in your street or you could get a small group together and target a bigger area that has become an eye sore.” Promoting Kilwinning will provide grabbers, gloves and bin bags.

Joe added: “Or you could join one of Promoting Kilwinning’s organised events.

“All Kilwinning schools have clean ups so ask when your child’s school is having their clean up.

“If we all do a ‘litter bit’ we can make a big difference to Kilwinning.” 2nd Kilwinning Boys Brigade will be cleaning up Almswall Park and the Dirrans lay area on Saturday, April 11 between 10am and noon. Meet at Nethermains Community Centre at 10am.

Or join the 19th Ayrshire Scouts on Saturday, May 16 at a time an venue to be confirmed.

Other major clean ups are in the pipe line but dates, times and venues still need to be confirmed.

Check the Promoting Kilwinning’s Facebook page for updates.

North Ayrshire Hit Squad will be targetting areas of flytipping throughout April and May so if there is a bad spot near you please report it to the Promoting Kilwinning Clean up team on 01294 552284 .

North Ayrshire Council will be supplying the event by providing all the equipment needed to help clean up but participants should wear sturdy shoes.
