THE big election date for most people in the country is May 7 but for Ayrshire College students, May 22 is the vote which they are looking forward to.

The day will see three Student Association Presidents elected and there are still places open for any students who want to stand.

The positions represent all students at the college with the task of helping them achieve their potential and assisting them with any issues that may arise.

Anyone interested in running for the full-time, paid positions need to fill out a nomination pack which are available at the reception, student services or from the college website and they must be returned to reception by 4pm on May 1.

Candidates must write their own manifesto and tell fellow students exactly what they plan to do if they are elected and then submit it to the college’s marketing department which will then create campaign material for them.

There will then be a series of hustings events that will allow students to question the candidates on their proposal with them taking place on May 12 at the Ayr campus from 1pm, May 13 at the Kilmarnock campus from 1pm and then May 14 at the Kilwinning campus at 1.15pm.

Voting will take place from 9am on May 18 until 3pm on May 22 with the elections being available online for the first time through the online tool Moodle.

The final results will be announced on the college’s website and social media pages on Friday, May 22 between 4pm and 5pm.
