A KILWINNING teenager who knocked a man unconscious has been sent to a young offenders institution.

Lewis Sim, of Montgomery Terrace, carried out the assault on August 2, 2014 in Sannox Drive, Saltcoats.

The 18-year-old punched the man on the head, causing him to fall to the ground and knocking him unconscious, before kicking him on the head causing him severe injury.

Sim also admitted breaching his bail on October 17 and October 24 after being found outwith his bail address of Gigha Place, Irvine.

As part of the conditions, Sim was supposed to remain within his home between 7pm and 7am.

Sim also breached another bail order with the same conditions granted on August 4.

The teenager was supposed to remain at the Quarriers hostel in Manse Street, Saltcoats but was instead found within Gigha Place on November 1.

Sim was also caught with the Class B drug methylmethcathinone - commonly known as mephedrone - on November 1.

He appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week and pled guilty.

Sim was sentenced to a total of 23 months in a young offenders’ institution.
