A KILWINNING man who admitted attacking his partner and covering her in food has been given a chance to prove he can behave.

Stephen Hollis, of Sundrum Place, also admitted threatening to kill the woman on March 24.

The incident occurred at around 9pm after Hollis had spent the day drinking and was heavily intoxicated.

In a bid to stop Hollis drinking, his partner decided to make him some food.

But things took a sour turn when the 41-year-old accused the woman of cheating on him. She decided to make her way to the bedroom to let Hollis calm down but an argument ensued when Hollis followed her.

Hollis then threw a plate at the woman covering her in food.

He then walked past her while she was sitting on the bed and proceeded to elbow her on the jaw.

This left the woman in pain and in fear for her safety.

Terrified by Hollis’ assault, the woman ran from the bedroom to the front door as Hollis shouted: “I’m going to kill you!” Police were contacted and officers in attendance noticed a red mark to the woman’s jaw and bruising to her arms.

Paramedics also attended the scene and despite advising the woman to attend Crosshouse Hospital for her injuries, she refused to go.

Hollis returned to Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, July 20 after previously pleading guilty.

Defence solicitor Niall MacFadyen told the court how Hollis had been held in custody for 78 days in relation to the offence. He insisted that both parties admitted they were drunk and have very little or no recollection of events. Mr MacFadyen added that the pair are due to marry in September and hope to put the incident behind them. Presiding Sheriff Derek Livingstone deferred sentence on Hollis until October for good behaviour.
