TWO people had to be rescued after being stranded near the The Big Idea.

On Sunday, September 20, the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue were called in to action to help the couple cut off by the tide near Irvine Harbour.

The team along with security at the Big Idea were able to help the pair to find their way home after reportedly becoming to the station.

The incident was the coastguard’s third call-out of the day.

A spokesperson for Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue said: “Around 3.20pm, the pagers were activated for the third time with the team being tasked to reports of persons cut off by the tide near to the old Big Idea building near Irvine Harbour.

“The team responded immediately and with the assistance of site security, have successfully located the two persons who were safely recovered and assisted to find their way home after getting disorientated.

“The team then returned to the station, completed the necessary paperwork and returned home shortly after 5pm ready to respond to the next callout - whenever it may happen.

“The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team is made up entirely of specially trained and equipped volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to those in need.”
