DO YOU KNOW a baby named Emily? Is your son named Lewis, James or Harris?

If the answer is yes, and your child was born last year then their names are amongst the most popular in North Ayrshire.

Details obtained by the Irvine Times show that Emily was the most popular girls name in the local area with 19 little Emilys being born in 2014.

In the boys list there was a theme of islands with 12 named Harris, 12 named Lewis and 12 named James topping the pile. If you compare them nationally, it will come as no surprise that Emily is top of the tree with 569 girls across the country being given that name.

It’s a bit of a change when it comes to the boys with Jack topping the list nationally when it only comes in joint fifth in North Ayrshire.

The list highlights all of the names given to three or more children but doesn’t tell the names of anyone who has a unique name or shares it with one other child. More traditional names such as Robert, Paul, Christopher and David all make it on to the final list with the girls list being dominated with what would be traditionally classed as old-fashioned with Sophia, Charlotte, Esme and Isabella all appearing in North Ayrshire.

In the national lists, you can see every single name but they are not broken down so it is not clear if a boy named Elvis is from Kilwinning, a baby girl named Diamond-Leigh is from Irvine and it could be the case that a little boy by the name of M lives locally.

Has your child got a unique or unusual name that has an interesting back story? Why not get in touch with the Times and explain why?
