SHOPS selling knives in Irvine and Kilwinning will have to apply for special licenses from the council as part of a new crackdown on blade crime.
Knife dealers throughout the town will be informed about new knife laws coming into action - and will be forced to pay NAC if they wish to continue selling.
NAC legal executive Ian T Mackay said that the new government rules, set to come into force in June next year, will only hit shops selling machetes and hunting knives - not domestic blades intended for use in the kitchen.
