New figures are a mixed bag

LONG QUEUE: The number of people claiming unemployment benefit has risen by more than 1000 in 12 months.

IRVINE and Kilwinning"s jobless rate has fallen for the second consecutive month, but has still increased by more than 1000 over the last 12 months.

In May the number of people claiming Job Seekers" Allowance across Central Ayrshire dropped by 20 to 2,559, representing 6.3 per cent of the economically active local population.

Throughout North Ayrshire a total of 3,226 people claimed unemployment benefit last month, a fall of 31 from April.
