VIOLENT gangs in Irvine are breaking up people"s fences to use as street weapons, according to one grandmother who witnessed a young man stabbed outside her home on Friday night.

And the Castlepark resident, who asked not to be named for fear of repercussions, said the gangs have destroyed the fence of her elderly neighbour TWICE to use parts of it in gang fights.

From her bed on Friday night she heard the blood-curling noises of a group assault that ended when a 21-year-old was stabbed in the neck.

She said: 'I was lying in my bed with the window open at about 11.20pm and you could hear all this shouting and balling. It was horrendous, they were hammering hell out of each other.

'They were running about with bits of wood swearing like anything - you could actually hear the whacks.'
