COUNCIL AIM TO CUT FUEL-ISH EXPENSES

COUNCIL bosses hope to save almost £330,000 per year on staff fuel expenses by simplifying their surrent complex system.

The council's Executive will this week decide whether to adopt the standard rates recommended by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)

This would provide a simple five-tier rate, compared to the current NAC set-up which has 22 separate elements.

At the moment NAC operate a system which has not changed since 1999.

Murray McFarlane, NAC Assistant Chief Executive, said: "The proposed implementation strategy...will provide the council with an overall annual saving of £327,774 year on year."

The council's Executive were due to vote on the issue as we went to press.
