Scared teen avoids court after 'threat'
A KILWINNING teen who was driven about in a stolen car joyride stayed away from court, claiming she had been threatened by the other people involved.
The 17-year-old, who was the only person in the car who was charged, said she had received phone call threats from the other culprits telling her not to attend Irvine's District Court.
The teen, who the Times shall keep anonymous, was caught by cops at the scene of a road accident in Garelet Place, Irvine, where it was discovered that she had left a party to be driven around in a stolen car.
Procurator Fiscal Stuart McMillan explained: "Police officers had occasion to come to a road accident and spoke to some of the witnesses where they discovered that the accused had allowed herself to be carried in a stolen vehicle.
"This lady is the only person appearing on this matter and she certainly played a minor role in this scenario."
However, her defence lawyer Robin Gray said she was not appearing at court because she had been "scared off" by other people involved.
He said: "Her reason for not being present today is that the others involved, for some reason I can't follow, have been phoning her with threats and she was scared of coming.
