On Monday five-year-olds Emma McDonald and Ben Murray from Loudoun Montgomery Primary School handed over an invitation for the Dear Mister Burns exhibition to a present-day Robert Burns, 12-year-old Robbie from Stevenston.

IRVINE Burns Club has this week launched its bid to put the town firmly on the Burns map.

Hundreds of hand written letters by famous faces have been put on display at their Wellwood home as part of the five day Dear Mister Burns extravaganza.

The letters of acceptance of honorary membership date back as far as 1828 and include replies from historical figures such as Winston Churchill, Garibaldi, Sean Connery and Margaret Thatcher.

The exhibition, which will also see events staged at the Harbour Arts Centre, forms part of the Homecoming Scotland Finale celebrations.
