IRVINE cycling legend Graeme Obree's dream of landing a third world record has hit the skids through the combination of an unsuitable bike and the return of debilitating depression.

Over 15 years on from when he last held the world "hour" record, Obree had hoped to once again reach the heights on a home-made machine.

But seeing that the new bicycle was unable to match his ambiions, the Irvine man sank into despair and was ordered to abandon his dreams by a doctor.
