POLICE are cracking down on cocaine in Irvine - with a torch that will show up the drug on people's faces.
The drastic measures, which will only be used on people who are acting suspiciously, are part of a clamp-down on the class A drug in pubs and clubs in the area.
Detective Inspector Scott McClelland said the UV torches, as well as cocaine-detecting wipes, are being deployed to stop the 'social' use of the drug.
He said: "Most people avoid illegal drugs, but a minority still choose to break the law."
