A NEW driving test centre will be opened in Irvine - despite complaints from businesses nearby.

The Driving Standards Agency centre for the area, which will replace the existing centres in Saltcoats and Kilmarnock, has now been approved for a site at Riverside Business Park in the town.

But other businesses who share the site have blasted the plans and said the constant flow of visitors will mean their security system is rendered useless.

One scathing letter to North Ayrshire Council planners said the centre could badly affect the companies that are already based at the address in Century Court.

The writer said: "We do not believe the use if part of the building for the general public is a good match and may be detrimental to the development and future of both businesses."
