TWO men were nabbed in Irvine's Primark trying to spend forged notes that were described as "fairly obvious fakes", said police.

The men, who are believed to have been taking drugs at the time, were trying to use £20 that have an extra section at the bottom where they appear to have been cut incorrectly, it is alleged.

The incident happened at around 3.20pm on Wednesday and the men left the store straight away before getting into a car and driving away from the car park nearby.

However, police were called immediately and they caught up with the accused pair. They then searched the car, allegedly uncovering a quantity of the "obviously fake" notes as well as a quantity of class A drugs.

A 32-year-old man from Irvine and a 35-year-old man from kilwinning have both been charged and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
