AN IRVINE plumber has been nominated for a national design award - after inventing a water boiler that could change the developing world.
David Osbourne is in the final running for a John Logie Baird Award for his creation called The Jompy, which boils water at four times the normal speed and is sweeping across Africa.
David, who runs an ordinary plumber business by day, said he was pleased that his idea had got some recognition and even sparked the interest of the Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki.
He said: "It's fantastic to get noticed for our work and I think we stand a good chance of winning because the idea is so simple."
