A DEVELOPER has called on our councillors and MPs to back proposals for an Irvine Sainsbury's - saying it will bring 750 jobs to the town.
Alan MacDonald, the chairman of developers Dawn Group, said the superstore will create 250 construction jobs, as well as the 500 permanent positions already reported for the store.
In a rallying letter sent to all councillors, MPS and MSPs, he said the proposed £20 million food store for the Ayr Road would re-ignite the Irvine economy and send out a message that the town was coming out of recession.
He said: "This is a once in a generation opportunity to kick start the economic regeneration."
While North Ayrshire Council consider the application from the supermarket giant, Prestwick-based Dawn Group have already made a start on improving the surrounding area and have made an agreement with Scottish Power to boost the electrical sub-station near the site.
