Stephen chasing his underwater dream!
AN IRVINE bricklayer ditched his trowel to follow his underwater dream - working on Royal Navy submarines.
And he has ended up scooping an impressive haul of trophies before he's even finished his training.
Stephen McCairns, a former Kilwinning Academy pupil, was handed a coveted Ganges Trophy at his passing out ceremony after leading his team to victory as part of a training competition at HMS Raleigh in the South West of England.
But the 21-year-old had still to pick up another TWO trophies - for his performance at the physical training and his skills on the rifle shooting range.
Stephen said he couldn't wait to finish up his training and get out to sea.
"I've enjoyed my training and I'm now looking forward to gaining some time at sea and taking part in operational deployments," he added.
