AN ARTISTIC link between Irvine and a Greman town could be started - after a painter from the town was invited over to continue his paintings on the continent.

Partially-sighted Keith Salmon, who hit the headlines after scooping the prestigious £20000 Jolomo landscape artist prize last year, has been invited over to Speyer for four months after a group of German art fans spotted his work down near the Irvine Harbour.

He told the Times: "Basically this all came about when these German visitors came out from the Ship Inn and saw a sign for my studio. They asked if they could come down and see my work.

"They liked what they saw and it was only later they told me they were from the Speyer Art Association."
