Ninety percent of residents think the post office closures in Irvine and Kilwinning have hit the communities hard, according to a survey carried out by an MSP for our area.
Aileen Campbell, an SNP member, said her fears about axing the branches in Irvine's Thornhouse Avenue and Kilwinning's Baird Avenue had become a reality as most people who responded to her questions said the moves WERE having a negative affect on the community.
And she also said that 77 percent of the people who replied thought the quality of the postal services in the areas had got worse since the closures came into effect in 2008.
She said: ""When the proposals to close the branches in North Ayrshire were first announced, many local residents expressed their fears that in addition to losing an important community facility, they would be faced with longer and more difficult journeys to alternative post offices, and longer queues once they got there.
"These replies to my latest survey seem to show these concerns were well-founded."
