Irvine's Maritime Museum continues to face funding challenges with "little stability" according to a new report going before councillors.
The document also says that if the visitor attraction were to be closed down, it could leave the council with a "significant" liability or asset, depending on the circumstances.
But the investigation into the museum's finances also shows that visitor numbers seem to be on the up, with more than 10,000 through the door already this year - compared to a similar number by the end of 2008.
