IRVINE'S Glasgow Vennel museum will be shut down by the council - and re-opened as a writer's museum run by the Burns Club, if new plans go ahead.

The cash-strapped council Executive are set to drop the axe on The Local and Family History Centre in Irvine, moving it instead to the Saltcoats Museum, a move which could net them around £9000 a year.

This would leave the historic premises free to be handed-over to the town's Burns Club, who would use it as a tourist trap for fans of Burns, Edgar Allan Poe and John Galt - who all have links to the town.
