The people of Irvine will soon be waving goodbye to the Carrick, following the announcement that it is to be transported to Australia.

Fiona Hyslop, Minister for Culture and External Affairs, announced on Saturday that South Australian campaigners had won their bid to have the clipper ship brought to Port Adelaide, where it will be preserved and put on display.

The ship, also known as the City of Adelaide, has lain on a slipway in Irvine for more than a decade, with the threat of deconstruction constantly hanging over it.
