BRIAN ASKS ABOUT HIGH SPEED RAIL
CENTRAL l Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe pressed Justine Greening, Secretary of State for Transport earlier this week to find out when Scots will reap the benefits of a HS2 rail service.
He was told "in theory" trains bound for Glasgow will reap the benefits by 2026, as the first stage of the line to Birmingham is completed, with the Transport Secretary "keen to talk to the Scottish Government about their proposals for... [high speed trains entering Scotland] in the future".
The MP commented: "Anyone who uses the West Coast Main Line Service to get from one end of the UK to another knows that to say it is struggling to meet demand is an understatement.
"Now the Transport Secretary has laid out the first stages of the plan I hope the Scottish Parliament pull their finger out and set up some constructive meetings with the HS2 provider, by getting a structured time frame in place so that there is no ambiguity around the role that high speed trains will play in Scotland".
