TRADER SLAMS PLANS FOR IRVINE'S BRIDGEGATE
A TRADER who has been in the town centre for 30 years has blasted the £2.4m tranformation of the Bridgegate as a "hair-brained scheme" at a consultation event organised by developers.
The harsh criticism came after shopkeepers and shoppers alike were shown proposals for the transformation of the town by Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, set to take place over the next few years.
Despite the majority of shoppers welcoming the plans at busy events, one experienced trader slammed the project - saying the money should be spent lowering rent for empty shop units in the town.
