"READILY available advice can help Irvine and Kilwinning residents to heat their homes for less." - That was the message from Margaret Burgess MSP when she joined CAB representatives at their 'Big Energy Week' stall in Irvine's Rivergate on Friday.

After her visit, the MSP, formerly employed by CAB, said: "Thousands of people in Cunninghame South and across Scotland are worried they can't afford their next fuel bill and many more say energy bills will put a strain on their finances this year.

"That's why Citizens Advice Scotland wants to help people save money on their fuel bills, that's why they are staging this 'Big Energy' Week and that's why I supported this event.

"They want to let people know exactly how they can save money by checking their current tariff, switching suppliers and insulating their home.

"The hope is that this campaign will help lots of people reduce their fuel bills by getting the best advice possible on how they can save money on their energy bills."

"At www.bigenergyweek.org.uk you can get advice on how to cut your fuel bill, helpful contact telephone numbers and links as well as find out what's happening in our area. You can also contact your local Citizens Advice Bureaux to for energy saving advice - the number will be in the phone book.

"Big Energy Week is helping people save money on their bills by encouraging them to check they're on the best tariff and payment method, to visit an accredited switching website to see if they can get your energy cheaper elsewhere and to check that they're not missing out on any benefits or tax credits that could up their income.

"The local Citizens Advice Bureaux can help with this. "
