JAMES Watt College's Chairman of the Board of Management has resigned in protest at a planned merger with other colleges.

Education secretary Mike Russell announced plans to create new college regions earlier this month.

The proposal left many confused about the implications for James Watt, whose campus in Kilwinning would fall in a different region from its Greenock campus.

However, Drew Duncan OBE has blasted the plans as bad news for the college and stepped down from his position as Chairman of the Board.
