AN IRVINE father "acted like a mug" when he shouted drunken abuse at his girlfriend and smashed her windows with stones, a court has heard.

Alexander Houston, 22, was staying with his mum in Kilwinning while he and his partner were on a "cooling-off" period on January 23.

The two had been in regular contact during the days leading up to the offence, but when Houston phoned at 11.30pm he heard male voices and the sounds of a party in the background.
