KILWINNING-BASED MSP Margaret McDougall has spoken in Kenny Gibson's members debate on allotments.

Margaret used her time in the debate to highlighting the benefits.

She said: "Those plots in Kilbirnie and the new ones in Eglinton Park will not only promote health and wellbeing, but they are practical example of sustainable communities, where people can come together to work together to grow healthy foods like fresh vegetables.

"On top of this they have a whole range of educational benefits.

She also spoke about the "Breaking Ground" (formerly Green Gym) scheme which is run by Eglinton Park Rangers for North Ayrshire Education department, adding:

"These projects not only improve mental and physical health but help the environment at the same time.

"Both allotments and "Breaking Ground" bring great benefit to the community."
