CLAN on Saturday lost out to a determined Devils side who are still battling to gain one of the remaining playoff spots.

A double by Ben Davies led the way for David Whistle’s side as Clan were restricted to only 19 shots on goal but it could well yet go down to the wire as to whether Devils continue to keep a place in the top eight.

Devils started brightly and were ahead at 6.41 with Davies firing home his first of the night but Clan hit back and levelled at 9.42 thanks to a shorthanded strike by Ed McGrane. Devils remained in a confident mood however and edged ahead again at 12.56 with Jake Morissette finding the target.

Period two saw a brief bout between Matthew Myers of Devils and Sam Zajac of Clan and this raised the game intensity up a couple of notches. Devils went 3-1 ahead at 32.12 when Tomas Kurka shot and scored but 38 seconds later Clan were right back in it as Kenton Smith slid the puck past Kamil Kosowski.

The third period saw the home side forced to kill off a 5 + game boarding call on defenceman Scott Aarssen in the 43rd minute and it was a tense finish as both sides went for the vital next goal. That goal did come – to Devils with 32 seconds remaining with Davies scoring into the empty net after Clan had pulled Kyle Jones for the extra skater.

Two huge points for Devils in the end though – how huge remains to be seen while Clan now have their minds on the playoffs as they aim to make the Finals weekend for the first time.
