STAFF at a Kilwinning nursery say they are “sickened” after mindless yobs went on a wrecking spree smashing 25 windows on eight vehicles this weekend.
The Rainbow Childcare Nursery was attacked on Sunday, March 21 by a gang of thugs who trashed eight cars and buses used to transport children to and from the nursery.
Manager of the centre Norrie Gillespie said he and his colleagues have been left ‘sickened and devastated’ by the damage.
He told the Times: “We are absolutely dumbfounded. It’s sickening. We just cannot believe what has been done here. Why would anyone want to do this to us?
“We are a centre which cares for young children and the vehicles are used to transport the kids to and from the nursery and for the after school club. Why on earth would anyone do this? It’s devastating.” Norrie says the cost of the damage is not yet known, but the nursery will most certainly have to foot the bill.
He said: “Some of the vehicles are not even on the road at the moment but they have just went around smashing all the windows for no reason at all. We can’t use the any of the vehicles until they are repaired which will affect us a great deal.
“It is going to cost us a lot of money to repair the damage done, but the feeling inside the nursery today is just horrible. We are all devastated by this.” Police investigating the vandalism are also looking into an incident at the Ayrshire College Nursery garden the day after, on Monday, March 23 which saw deliberate damage done to a metal climbing frame, an eco friendly greenhouse and a wooden Wendy house.
PC Joe Murdoch said police enquiries are continuing into the incident. although no arrests have been made yet.
He said: “Enquiries are still ongoing into the incident in involving 25 windows being smashed on eight vehicles at Rainbow Childcare Nursery and the damage to the Ayrshire College Nursery garden.”
