STEWARTON"S brand new £3.5m Area Centre will begin to take shape straight after the town"s Bonnet Festival celebrations.

The centre, which will encompass library, police offices, council services and hall space, will be built in Avenue Square.

Local councillor Jim O" Neill welcomed the move, which was to begin after the festival to avoid disruption.

Community Council Chairman Ian Finlayson also welcomed the centre, but questioned whether it was enough to meet ever increasing demand in the town.
