ELMA HAS TAKEN THE BULL BY THE HORNS
I WILL hold my hands up and admit that, in general, this column has tended to err towards slating what I have personally perceived as negative - be it council policy or other such nonsense. So it may come as a surprise that I am going to dish out some praise on the council's new boss (for what my opinion is worth anyway...).

OLDFATHER DYNASTY BITES THE DUST
AND lo! It came to pass that in the first month of a new decade the political dynasty of the Oldfathers was over before it had really began. Not that they were ever likely to rival the Kennedys as a family of political giants, but the ignominious nature of Ryan - Kilwinning councillor and son of MSP Irene - Oldfather's conviction for crashing a car and refusing to give a breath test to police perhaps fittingly bookends the Labour member's short career.

PROTESTS MAY BE ALL WE HAVE LEFT
IT made me laugh - but unfortunately not in a hearty manner..... The director of CBI Scotland, Iain McMillan is the type of man you would expect to look down on any form of 'industrial action'. But his latest claim that the protests in Kilmarnock will have an adverse effect on foreign investment into Scotland really takes the biscuit.
