FORMER world champion Graeme Obree has been honoured by a top Ayrshire cycling club.

Fullarton Wheelers Cycling Club on Monday night presented the sports legend with kit from the Endura World Tour Series to show recognition of his previous achievements and the support he offers as President of the Ayrshire Club.

The rainbow stripes are the registered trademark by the UCI only to be worn by existing or previous World Champions. Obree is well known for his World Championship wins and hour records and famously enjoyed world championship success on board a bike featuring washing machine parts.

Obree was delighted with the presentation and said: “It is a wonderful kit and one I will wear with pride as a member of the Fullarton Wheelers.” Stephen Cassidy, vice-chairman of the cycling club added: “This is a great period for the club, having just completed our 80th anniversary and going from strength to strength. Obree is an inspiration to the members and to see him riding in club colours with his World Championship Bands is just fantastic.”
