THE winter season started in earnest for the Fullarton Wheelers on Monday night as over 30 members undertook the first of ten events for their Winter League Program. The course was a 10mile TT virtual reality ride along the shores of Lake Como, fairly flat for the first 7 miles before the climb took hold and had everyone working hard to set a good time.

Thirty seconds were all that split the top three, with Alastair MacFarlane taking top hours, setting a new course record of 22:54, from Gordon Stead 23:05 and Darren Kean 23:18.

The club coaches undertook the second of their Roller coaching sessions on Tuesday evening with another 6 pupils signing up. All passed with flying colours with a certain Liz Muir managing to ride no-handed before the end of her half hour segment.

On Saturday a huge gathering of over 50 adults and youth members joined forces with Ayrodynamic Triathlon Club, to take part in the annual Braveheart Fund cycle.

This year’s event held significant importance as both clubs gathered to ride in remembrance for their dear friend Iain O’May who tragically died hours after finishing his first Iron Man in Frankfurt in July. Iain raced sporting colours of the both clubs of whom he was a member of. Riders tied club coloured ribbons to their bikes, and before the racing got underway, FWCC chairman Chris Staples presented a cheque for £250 to the Braveheart Fund organisers in memory of Iain.

Both clubs led the way at the start with many of the members tackling the course just as Iain would have, fast and aggressive. A true friend who is sorely missed.
