AYR Racecourse hosts midweek action next Wednesday, (November 11 with the six-race November Raceday.

The opening race is the Racing UK Maiden Hurdle over two miles four furlongs at 1.20 pm with the feature contest the Racing UK Anywhere Available Now Handicap Chase over three miles.

This is a qualifier for the Challenger Staying Chase Series Final and with £12,000 on offer should see a big field go to post.

The afternoon’s action concludes with the Racinguk.com Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt flat race at 3.50 pm.

Meanwhile Langholm-based trainer James Ewart landed the feature race at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday when Aristo du Plessis won the £20,000 Tennent’s Cup Handicap Hurdle over two miles by two lengths from stablemate Avidity.

The 5/1 chance held on bravely in a dramatic race that saw favourite Glingerburn fall three from home and bring down the Mike Smith trained Uriah Heep.

Glingerburn’s trainer Nicky Richards reported afterwards that his stable star faces a long period on the sidelines. He said : “He’s a bit sore and won’t be running for a while. It’s not career threatening but we’ll let it settle and it will just take time.”

In- form Lucinda Russell saddled a double with Island Heights (11/4 jt fav) winning the Plumbstore Handicap over two mile five furlongs and Back To Bracka (7/2) landing the Lightways Contractors Ltd Handicap Chase over two miles four furlongs. Both horses were ridden by Derek Fox.

A crowd of 4,387 – a record for the fixture - also saw a double for the trainer-jockey combination of Mark Walford and Jake Greenall who landed the first race, a two mile maiden hurdle, with Cornborough (9/1) and then followed this up by winning the two mile handicap chase with Oliver’s Gold (10/1).

Raccourse bosses were rewarded with excellent fields after upping the prize-money to £66,000 - an increase of £16,000 on the 2014 prize fund.
