SILVERWARE was on show and fine performances rewarded when the Ayrshire Junior Golf League celebrated their 47th year at the annual dinner and presentation of trophies at Ballochmyle Golf Club last Monday with Irvine Golf Club among the main winners.

The Wallace Thornton Trophy final saw defending champions Irvine GC play Kilmarnock (Barassie). In a close encounter, the North Ayrshire side retained the title with a 2.5-1.5 win and made it a double by winning the Andrew D Nimmo Trophy, for the first time.

Scott Murray of Irvine Golf Club won the individual handicap award The Carrick Trophy after recording a five under par score of 63 over the Seafield course to take the trophy.

Hosted by league chairman Robert Wilson of Ballochmyle GC, was attended by a number of guests, honorary members of the association and a healthy representation of players and conveners from member clubs.

Hazel McGarvie of The Ladies Golf Club Troon, who won the girls prize in the Macrobert Thistle Junior Golfer Of The Year awards presented by by David Reynolds of The national Playing Fields Association.

Winner of the MacRobert Thistle boys award was Sean Cook of Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club. who reached the final of the Ayrshire Boys Matchplay Championship.

He was honoured for great sportsmanship.

The Matt Lygate Trophy for the Ayrshire Boys Team Championship.at Ayr Seafield, which was won for the 12th time in the 28-year history of the event by Kilmarnock (Barassie).

The Silver Jubilee Trophy won by Peter Gossman and Cameron McLean of West Kilbride.

In August the Ayrshire Boys Championship took place at West Kilbride Golf Club and the winner of the title was Craig McKenzie of Troon Welbeck GC.

Junior Order Of Merit Winner was Euan Ferguson of Trump Turnberry.
