ETHX Energy Scottish Junior Cup Third Round

KILWINNING RANGERS 2

SAUCHIE 1

REVENGE was sweet for Buffs as they downed the East Coast side to make amends for defeat at their hands two seasons ago.

Chris Strain Junior's side did it the hard way, coming back from behind but will be delighted to make progress in the national competition.

The hosts took the lead in controversial circumstances with only three minutes on the clock when the home defence failed to clear a cross and the ball was turned home, although there was some doubt as to whether it had crossed the line.

Only a minute later Buffs almost levelled but a rasping 25-yard shot from Ben Lewis crashed off the crossbar.

Then at the other end in 18 minutes a visiting player shot wide after home goalie Adam Strain had narrowed the angle.

Buffs then began to take control and in 34 minutes Dean Agnew made a good turn before sending a cross into the six-yard box. but there were no takers.

However two minutes from half-time it was all-square when Bryan Boylan sent over a precision cross to Barry Fleeting who turned the ball home from 10 yards.

Lewis then shot wide in 51 minutes as Buffs continued to impress.

Then 10 minutes later the hosts were awarded a penalty-kick when Lewis was upended inside the box. He then dusted himself down and netted from the spot.

Eight minutes later the visiting midfielder was given a straight red card for a lunge on defender Robert Boyd.

In 73 minutes Lewis shot wide after picking up a Liam McGuinness pass. Ten minutes later a rasping 35-yard drive from McGuinness crashed off the crossbar and Lewis netted the rebound but the striker was adjudged offside.
